Why it’s time to switch to Sun Cellular

Disclaimer: I’m not affiliated with Sun. I’m just a happy subscriber sharing some good news.

Sun Cellular has recently become part of the PLDT group and is now a sister company of Smart. They are on the process of making the Smart network available to Sun subscribers. But did you know that as Sun subscribers, you can actually use the Smart network right now?

It’s called domestic roaming, and you activate it by going to your phone’s network settings and manually choosing “Smart”. You can now enjoy Smart’s great network coverage at no extra cost! If you have unlimited calls, texts or mobile internet, they will still be unlimited.

Pretty soon, merging of the two networks will be finished and we will no longer have to roam. Sun’s network will be one and the same with Smart. This is very welcome news to Sun subscribers who constantly had put up with crappy service, especially when going to remote areas where signal is very low or nonexistent, as is the case most of the time. Now we can get full signal at the remotest of areas or browse at real 3G internet speed.

Which brings me to question, since Sun and Smart will essentially become the same service-wise, what will be Smart’s selling point besides an “elite” image? Why would anyone choose Smart over Sun and pay much more for the same service? Smart and Globe’s rates are heinously exorbitant. With Sun, you can get a postpaid line as cheap as 299 pesos.

Guys, it’s time to be smart, ditch your Smart or Globe line. To use Sun’s own words, “Ngayon ka dapat mag-Sun!” 🙂

  1. During the last earthquake, I couldn’t make a call on my Sun phone, and the messages I sent were either delayed, or failed due to the busy network. I used my Globe one to call. XD

i think if you have a signal with sun, you CAN’T connect with smart, but if you dont have a signal with sun you CAN connect to smart. kase here in manila i cant connect to smart, pero when i went to palawan walang signal ng sun, it automatically connected to smart 3G nga eh, im not sure lang if pwede rin gamitin yung data kase i wasnt unli data then none the less i was able to call and text using my sun sim in palawan.

I believe you can only switch to Smart in certain places where there is no Sun signal, like in Palawan and places in Mindanao. But if you are in Metro Manila, Smart cell sites are not enabled to allow sun sim cards to connect for domestic roaming. I know this because when I went to Puerto Princesa last month I was roaming on Smart, when I got back to Manila I tried to connect to Smart in an area where I have low Sun signal, it wouldn’t allow me, despite that it allowed me in Puerto Princesa. It will depend on the Smart cell site if it’s been enabled to alllow Sun to roam.

Dont select “Automatic”, Choose “Manual” instead. Your phone will always be on the Smart Network even if there is signal from Sun.
But first, you must scan for available networks. Once all networks are displayed, choose Smart and then it will enroll ur fone on the network. Then
select “Manual” so it will forever be on “Smart”!!

This is a very good ploy for smart. If you use sun and not smart you will now also have to have smart to use your sun effectively. This sounds like a monopoly ploy to me, I’m wondering how DTI or the communications commission allowed this endeavor to happen.

Hi. I got a question but it may not be relatively connected to your blog, I am using a smart lte sim in my iphone 5. But the signal bar shows SUN. Reading your blog made me realize that its because of roaming of signal. However I wanna have my signal to show as SMART and not SUN! Haha.
